Willmott Dixon complete works for Milton Keynes Council's Fairfield Primary School. | News | Procurement Hub

Procured through our Major Projects Framework, Milton Keynes Council work with our framework partner Willmott Dixon to complete their school investment programme.

The project involved an extension and internal remodelling works to the existing school built by Willmott Dixon in 2017. It includes a new two storey extension and alteration of Fairfield Primary School helping to provide much-needed secondary school places in the Milton Keynes area.

The new space and alterations were completed in time for the start of the Autumn 2020 term. The works were urgently needed for additional teaching accommodation for secondary school age pupils. It provides fantastic facilities to deliver a high-quality secondary school curriculum. These include class bases and specialist science, food tech, music, ICT, art and textiles classrooms and a senco room.

Because of the building's design and facilities, it enables the altered space to be restored to primary teaching accommodation and the extension’s conversion into wrap around care and early years provision for the surrounding community.

The strategies employed by the team during the COVID pandemic ensured the project’s completion ready for the new term providing additional secondary school places made necessary by Milton Keynes Western expansion.

Willmott Dixon focussed on working with the local charity Macintyre, MK College, MK Christian Fellowship and all local schools to provide work experience and support life-long learning for MK residents.

The project generated £1,065,388 of social return on investment and an early value management exercise created savings of approximately £75,000.

Willmott Dixon added value to the project with 90 hours dedicated to supporting young people into work and 97% of waste was diverted from landfill, exceeding its target of 95%.

This project achieved 100% SME Spend and SME Engagement whilst 89% of local labour came within 20miles of the site and 67% of local spend came from within 20 miles of the site.

Overall Willmott Dixon received a customer satisfaction score of 9.6/10 for the project and a considerate constructor score of 44 out of 50.

“Despite the challenges of COVID-19 being realised during the construction stage of the Fairfields project Willmott Dixon have managed and mitigated the risk and managed to complete the project early and on budget.” – Milton Keynes Council
