Willmott Dixon has completed the £5million refurbishment of an existing office building for Gloucestershire Police’s Learning and Development Centre.
The project was procured through our Major Projects Framework and Willmott Dixon began work on the site in September 2019.
The centre stands on a former nuclear power station site which has been transformed into a new 3,000 square metre building housing an IT suite, lecture theatre, classrooms and a fitness centre. The new refurb also included a local café in the community in addition to external landscape upgrades and a new parade ground.
The project ensured added value by employing 5 local people, 2 of which were long term unemployed. Site visits were allowed for Gloucester College students with the aim to give them a deeper understanding of the various types of work carried out within the construction industry. Willmott Dixon also supported 3 careers events including SGS, WISE and SGS Stroud Employability expos.
In total, £1.5m worth of social value was generated and 95% of project spend came through Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) as well as 90% of spend being local within 40 miles of the site. 100% of waste was diverted from landfill
The project received a 10/10 Customer satisfaction score and was completed in May 2020 with a defect-free handover.
Vicki Heselton, Head of Estates and Support Services for Gloucestershire Constabulary noted that “It is the professionalism, dedication, commitment, efficiency and want to get it right that has impressed us about Willmott Dixon.
It’s been a real pleasure. There wasn’t anything that didn’t work well from start to finish, from design to handover”
