Cat B Fit Out For Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust’s Kao Park Office | News | Procurement Hub

Our framework partner Wilmott Dixon Interiors has successfully completed the cat b fit out for Princess Alexandra Hospital trust’s Kao park office space in Harlow, Essex. This will house their back of house staff members outside of hospital premises, creating more hospital space for clinical specialists, also critical for fighting COVID-19.

Wilmott Dixon was awarded the opportunity to create the 27,221²ft. new modern office space for 250 members of staff. The commercial project was procured through our Major Projects Framework and provides 250 desk space for NHS workers in finance, HR and other supporting roles that are also key areas of function for the NHS Trust.

The project was completed within budget and a week ahead of schedule; in just 11 weeks amid COVID-19. Social distancing was followed throughout, under the guidelines within the Site Operating Procedures produced by the Construction Leadership Council. The site team adapted their working practices by implementing one way systems, extra space for welfare facilities, shift working patterns to reduce the number of people on site as well as hosting digital meetings and site walk-through via video call.

Alternative suppliers who remained open during COVID-19 had to be sourced and value engineering was implemented to keep to budget whilst still meeting customer expectations. The project was handed over defect free on the day of the Trust’s 55 year anniversary of caring for their patients across East Herts and West Essex.

These new facilities provide an agile and collaborative workplace environment allowing support staff to relocate from their existing location within the hospital to free up hospital space for the increasing need for clinical staff, also critical for fighting COVID-19.

The full scope of works included; creation of bright breakout areas within open plan office space, meeting rooms and a welcoming reception area. This modern office space also offers agile ways of working with advanced technology implemented within a Skype room and a new meeting room booking system that permits meeting rooms to be booked via an app in any location, allowing flexibility for all NHS staff members to use the facility.
