Procured through the Major Projects Framework, The Skinners’ Kent Academy (Phase 1) involved the construction of mezzanine to form two new science classrooms within the existing The Skinners’ Kent Academy building.
This project continues the working relationship with Kent County Council but is the first project Kent have procured through the Procurement Hub framework. Sustainable development is a key consideration for Kent County Council. As Willmott Dixon target 0% carbon emissions as a business by 2030, this project has supported our vision by diverting 100% of its construction waste from landfill.
This project came to Willmott Dixon late in the delivery programme and was under pressure to be completed on time. Kent County Council wanted the works to be carried out during the six week summer holiday period. It was quickly realised that this was not possible due the quantity of work involved. Instead we a temporary classroom area was installed on-site which was finished for the start of September. At the same time we started the mezzanine works and completed all of the disruptive works during the school holiday. The Major Projects framework allowed for the project to be brought back onto programme and delivered on time, and to our customers aspirations.
Despite the global impact of COVID-19 this project, which demanded a very quick construction programme already, handed over one week early and on budget, whilst achieving a customer satisfaction score of 9/10.
“Willmott Dixon have responded extremely well to the challenges posed by COVID-19 and we have not experienced any slowdowns because of it. I could not fault the professional manner in which the team has behaved, and how they have approached the project, and the speed at which they have moved things along”.
